Staurolite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Kanmantoo Mine, Kanmantoo, Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
11 × 7.5 × 3.2 cm
Description

Large dark green crystals of staurolite up to 3.5 cm long seem to have partly weathered out of a very fine grained schist. Some crystals are roughly terminated with most forming single crystals rather than the typical twins.

There is a couple of thin bands of calcite? running the length of the specimen. This is the best specimen of staurolite I have ever seen from this old copper mining district.

Due to the weight of this piece, orders placed outside Australia need to allow $14 for shipping.
