Description

A rich specimen of the rare tin copper sulphide stannite with minor cassiterite, pyrite, and quartz. The Oonah Mine initially opened as a silver/lead mine, with miners discovering a lode nearby carrying rich amounts of stannite. This was worked as a separate mine between 1898-1910 with the ore sent to a smelter built to the north of the main smelters at Zeehan
