Description

Countless minute, red garnet crystals are embedded in a white, granular quartz matrix. This is a very old historical piece.

Comes with original hand-written label of Augustin Alexis Damour (1808-1902), a well-known french mineralogist, and on-glued corresponding number sticker.
His personal mineral collection was sold to F. Krantz (who was in charge of the Krantz mineral dealership between 1891 and 1926), probably shortly after his death. The label means: 'Grénat Manganésien  - Etate du Maine - Amérique du Nord - 1750' (Manganiferous garnet - State of Maine - North America . 1750).
The number sticker is, as so often, three digits while the inscription on the label is 4 digits.
