Description

Most collectors think of Colorado or Ethiopia, when they speak about Amazonite and for sure all think that Amazonite from Colorado is the best. Of course - when you look at the quantity, the size and the combination with Smoky Quartz there is nearly nothing compare-able. But when we speak about the intensity of color I have to say this stuff from Russia is best, they are darker and the saturation is at least as good as the very best ones from US. This material is old, most of them came to Europe in the late 80ties and  early 90ties, but quantity was low and so this material didn´t get much attention - simply out of the reason that no one had it or was able to get it. Many specimen were just single crystals or not really aesthetic, intergrown crystals, intergrown to matrix - one like this with free-standing, sharp terminated main crystals is really exceptional! Both crystals raise up vertically, they are sharp terminated (the termination is much more sharp as you can see on my images, each edge is sharp - not rounded) and the saturation is crazy good - imagine the best ones you saw from Smoky Hawk claim and add 10% color, then you got it.

They are resting on crystalized Smoky Quartz. The Smoky Quartz didn´t develop crystals, I think they had no room to grow, but there are stepped, glossy faces. The Quartz is inter-grown to lighter matrix. The Amazonite crystals show some kind of unidentified inclusions along one edge at the backside - this is this red-brown area you can see on the photos. The assemble is very tri-dimensional and very aesthetic.
