Description

A typical zinc ore specimen from Moresnet, quite heavy. The specimen features tabular, white to clear crystals of hemimorphite perched upon a thin crust of yellowish-green smithsonite, on a brecchiated ore matrix.

An interesting historic specimen from the Altenberg zinc mine in Neutral-Moresnet. Neutral Moresnet was a small Belgian-Prussian condominium that existed from 1816 to 1920 between present-day Belgium and Germany. The mine was owned by Vieille-Montagne, closed already in 1884 and is part of the classic Altenberg / Kelmis / Moresnet mining area near Aachen, Germany.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with beautiful old label dated 1867!
Calamin is a synonym for hemimorphite.
