Prismatine With Sapphirine

(Kornerupine Var Kryptotile)
Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Waldheim, Döbeln, Saxony, Germany
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
2.2 × 7.5 × 5.8 cm
Largest Crystal:
1.20cm
Description

With sapphirine, possibly some ruby and spinel.

The information on the old label and the media are a little confusing.

I tried to sort this out: What first was regarded as a variety of kornerupine later became a new mineral (prismatine) and then the crystals (or some of them) were seen as an alteration product of kornerupine (kryptotile).

Anyway this is a worldwide unique locality and mineral combination. Who knows what else you may find on this fine and rare specimen?

Old collection, old label stating "traded with Bergakademie Freiberg Sept. '68"
