Description Tabs

Description

Sella Alp, Airolo, Leventina, Ticino, Switzerland
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 4.9 × 3.3 cm
Weight:
72.00gr
Description

Impressive group of finely intricated thin rutile crystals (var sagenite) with red lustrous crystals to over 2 cm. Groups of this size are pretty rare in the Alps.

The locality is intriguing, to say the least. Alp Sella is only mentioned in very old books as a locality 2h walk from St Gotthard Pass. The pasted handwritten label from Lehmann (CH) mentions it located in the Grisons, which is compatible with the above - however I could not find another report of this locality, which I guess must be obscure.

In very good conditions, it comes with a reasonable reserve price.
