Description

Klipsteinite is an old german synonym for rhodonite. Originally described from the given locality "Bornberg mine, Herbornseelbach, Hesse, Germany", it was assumed to be a distinct species, what was not the case.
An important historic specimen: Reported by F. v. Kobell in 1866: "Ueber den Klipsteinit, ein neues Mangansilicat" ("About the klipsteinit, a new manganese silicate). The old label dated 1850-80 was originally glued to the specimen and was carefully removed with water because it covered too much of the specimen - this was possible because of the usage of water-soluble arabic gum glue in these times.
