Description

This is a very curious non-mineral, which I thought still might be interesting to a mineral collector. I was told that those "lava-waffles" were made by the inhabitants of the volcano region to "initiate" real waffle-irons before making edible cookies with it.

It was made in 1868 from real vesuvius-lava and shows a portrait of Garibaldi (I presume) on one side, the words "Garibaldi 1868" on the other side. Perhaps it also has some other ritual or religious background.

The history I was told makes sense but I'd lie if I said I knew it exactly. Perhaps an Italian collector can tell us more about this interesting artifact.
