Description

Here is something special for the quartz collector, or for those that need a specimen from Alberta, Canada. From the Drumheller Badlands comes this unusual quartz specimen. A radiating fan of fully terminated but highly flattened and distorted quartz crystals sits on an ironstone matrix.

As described in Rocks & Minerals, Vol 87, No 6, 512-521, quartz crystals of “normal” simple prismatic habit are in the minority at Drumheller, though you will note one or two on this piece. Further examination will reveal two or three sceptres of quartz as well. The close-up photos show the prominent terracing of the crystal faces.

Also present is minor light blue chalcedony.
