Description

A well-defined, green pyroxene crystal and further grains frozen in a matrix of reddish-brown (almandine) garnet.

Comes with original hand-written label of A. A. Damour (1808-1902), a well-known french mineralogist, and on-glued corresponding number sticker. His personal mineral collection was sold to F. Krantz (who was in charge of the Krantz mineral dealership between 1891 and 1926), probably shortly after his death. Damour was sufficiently famous that Krantz had additional labels printed identifying the specimens from the Damour collection.

The label means: "Pyroxène vert dans un Grenat dé Diana, Lewis Cty, New York" (Green pyroxene in a garnet from Diana, Lewis Co., New York).
