Fluorite With Pyrite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Birkett Common Mine, Mallerstang, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 5 × 3.5 cm
Description

Glassy purple fluorite crystals to approx 6 mm with purple edge banding when turned. Also shows defined edge modifications, an unusual feature seen at this location. In addition there is a small group of interlocking tarnished pyrite cubes, a feature not usually seen at this mine. Overall a very interesting specimen from a little seen North Pennine location on the periphery of the main mineralised zone. Little now remains at this site and fluorite specimens from this small Cumbrian trial working are very rare.
