I have sold a great many of these superb- best in the world red phantom quartzes, but never one that presents the unique multi stage crystallization that effectively created the phantoms as well as this crystal does. This is no doubt the finest of its sort that I was able to secure from the world famous collector. The termination is pristine featuring two terminations in fact, one covering the other. Both are razor sharp with crisp superbly positioned edges that just overlap each one another. The color is vivid and can not get any better than this and the luster is as shiny as quartz can ever be, surpassed only by its clarity.

The crystal is an oversized scepter with white primary stage quartz appearing not only in the previously contacted areas but also just beneath the cap on one vertical side confirming its form and formation process. The primary stage was coated by red hematite oxide evident in the partially revealed termination sticking out matte against the shine rest surrounding it. What is interesting is that there are no pyrite visible on this mineralization covering the first stage. The scepters cap is double terminated extending past half way down the large crystal. The secondary quartz mineralization coated almost the entire crystal save for the portion that was thankfully missed and is now so well framed by a thick beveled and recessed border.

The de-activation of the quartz crystallization is very strange to me, what caused it to stop when it did just short of completely coating the crystal?? The golden pyrite are a rarity in quartz and ever more uncommon to appear within a red phantom quartz crystal like this, limited in presence only to the termination faces that are coated by the secondary mineralization, captured there for all eternity.

The condition is superb- the obvious crystallized contacts revealing the white primary quartz where other crystals left their mark. Don’t miss this one.
