Description

Pseudorutile is an own minerals species but closely related to rutile. Here is a test glass containing black pseudorutile sand. I did not open it, because there will be nothing more to see, comparing to pic 4.

Comes with two old labels. One is attached to the batting stopper of the test glass with a pin; it is from "Heidelberger Mineralien Comptoir", the second one is without a hint on the origin. The Heidelberger Mineralien-Comptoir was one of the earliest mineral dealerships in Europe, dating back to 1804. The business ultimately operated for over 125 years, and was intermittently one of the leading establishments in the world.

"Menakan" or "Menakin" is an old synonym for pseudorutile.
Dated 19th century, it is an interesting historic oddity.
