Description

Planerite is a member of the turquoise group. The specimen features turquoise-green crusts of planerite on a quartz-rich mica schist.

Named by Hans Rudoph Hermann in 1862 in honor of Dimitrii Ivanovich Planer (1821-1882), Mineralogist and former Director of the Gumeshevsk copper mines, who discovered the species some distance east of those mines. The type locality is Chernovskaya Mt, Chernaya River, Verkhnyaya Sysert', Sverdlovskaya Oblast', Middle Urals, Urals Region, Russia.
Although only "Syssert" ist stated on the old russian label, it is very likely from the type locality.
