Orschallite & Picropharmacolite

Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Cobalt, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.5 × 1 × 1.2 cm
Description

This is a specimen of cubes of white orschallite in association with white fibrous picropharmacolite. Crystals of the orschallite are on and in a very fragile matrix, therefore we did not mount identifying arrows.

The images of "orschallite #2" identify a vug on the specimen. When viewed under the microscope you will note a half dozen or so of the orschallite crystals within.

This was found in a boulder of deeply weathered dolomite from the upper portion of a silver vein. The predominant mineral in the boulder was white picropharmacolite as white acicular crystals to 0.5cm filling fractures and vugs in dolomite.

See the EDS pattern on the analysis tab.
