Description

Astonishing museum size and quality branch of petrified wood from the super classic locality at Kelmis (Belgium). It has a nice fusiform morphology due to alluvial transport, where no external bark is preserved. In the fossilization process wood was replaced by hard iron oxy-hydroxides. The effect of the erosion has naturally polished the branch so beautiful nodes and boreholes (made by shipworms) are perfectly preserved in detail. Such specimens totally replace by iron oxy-hydroxides are very uncommon in this locality, particularly in this super-size. No damages.

Ex Herman Torfs specimen #639.
