There has been allot of noise in recent months after the release of the “Mineralienwelt” magazines brief story on the Soltau’s fluorite that were discovered some time after the middle of last year. The article contained superb images of very unique fluorite specimen that came from subsequent discoveries around the farm Hohenstein, each find revealed more fascinating colors and rare morphology, strange intergrowths and aesthetic combinations.  I was lucky to secure some pieces from each find and will be making them available to you in the upcoming auctions.

By far the most unusual fluorite that came in the lot and undamaged with one slight area of attachment contact positioned at the thick hyalite opal coated end of what as far as I can tell is a floater structure. Typical purple accenting to colorless crystals yet not described in the article was this unique morphology-  truncated octahedral habit. There are literally hundreds of individual crystals within this 3-d stalactite that grew within an open space touching the roof and floor evident by the flattened area at either end- fully crystallized on both the termination and base ends. The lower extent is coated by thick hyalite opal coating that reacts under uv lighting glowing green.

The core of the structure consists of small fluorite crystals that developed further into notably larger well defined truncated octahedrons along peripheral edges extending outwards from the core also becoming more colorless than the green central region now exhibiting typical hohenstein purple accents. There is a good luster and the condition is undamaged.
