Natrolite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Glenarm, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
16 × 8 × 10 cm
Description

Natrolite in the Antrim hills is not particularly common and usually in small vugs. This considerable specimen comes from a vein that was almost completely infilled by the mineral. There is an area in the centre where terminations are in evidence but the beauty of the specimen comes from the compact white crystal radiations (up to 2.5cm in length) that pass from front to back of the specimen. Since I collected this almost 20yrs ago I have never seen natrolite in any size larger than miniture.
This specimen features in a 'Rock and Gem' article I wrote years ago. (Jan 1997, P36)
