Description

A few years ago I had the luck to buy from a Greek collector a lot (the whole find) of Mushketovite from Xanthi. These are pseudomorphoses of magnetite after hematite "iron roses". I would like to say these pieces are sensational and really rare. A piece of this find is illustrated in the book "Greece" by Berthold Ottens.  In this piece in the auction the original form of the iron roses is very good to recognize and very beautifully crystallized. One could almost believe that this is an alpine piece. However, if you look at the matrix a little closer, then you see that small quartz crystals and epidote has grown on it. A clear indicator for the locality Xanthi - the exact locality is Selero/Lefkopetra. The metallic luster is excellent and the crystals are grown very esthetically on the matrix. The largest crystal reaches a diameter of 2.2 cm.  A really great showcase piece!
