Description

Old Hagendorf specimen featuring a black columbite crystal frozen in massive matrix consisting of fine-grained, silvery muscovite, brownish triplite and greenish vivianite.

Comes with old, faded pencil-written label. The label means:
"Niobit, Triplit, Kaliglimer, Vivianit - Spatgrube Meixner - 20 R.M. Hagendorf" (Columbite, Triplite, Muscovite, Vivianite - Meixner Spar pit - 20 R.M. [stands for Reichsmark, a currency used in Germany from 1924-1948])

Niobit = columbite, Dana 6th, 731 (1892)
Kaliglimmer = muscovite, Dana 6th, 614 (1892) (the "m" in Kaliglimer is doubled by the overbar - old german spelling)
"Spatgrube Meixner" is the old name for which is known as present-day "Hagendorf North pegmatite".

The columbite is slightly radioactive due to content of U, Th and rare earth elements (appr. 2.2 micro Sv/h within spitting distance).
