Collected from dumps by seller in 1989

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Welcome Mine, Arkaroola District, Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.8 × 5.3 × 3.2 cm
Description

A rare locality specimen obtained from surface dumps of this small copper mine that began operations in the 1860s. It seems no one had disturbed the locality until I collected this specimen during a visit there in 1989. Many lovely ore samples were all still available then but not now. Word travels fast !

This specimen consists of a surface layer of lovely olive green libethenite crystals, requiring a microscope to view, on a patterned siltstone matrix.
