Spring Creek Mine, Wilmington, Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia

Small cabinet (7-10 cm)

Description

An extremely complex copper specimen.

The matrix comprises sharp angular brecciated chert, with has a coated of black chrysocolla. On to this base initially cuprite crystals formed, these has been partly repalced by malachite, and a spray of azurite crystals, after which the chemical composition of the groundwaters changed and the malchite balls and rosettes then had pale green libethenite develop on their upper surfaces and also a couple of small sprays of barite formed. A fascinating specimen that one could easily while away a lot of time examining.

This location is now completely closed to collecting having been incorporated in a water reserve
