Description

Rich matrix specimen of botryoidal yellow-green smithsonite hosting numerous vugs from the well-reknowned Malfidano Mine in Sardinia. Medium lustre for the smithsonite, which gets higher and velvety on the open drusy (depicted). The 'key' of this specimen is given by a small, very elegant group of monoclinic gypsum crystals, hosted in one of the smithsonite-coated vugs and nicely contrasting with the latter.

Esthetic, sizeable and representative specimen for this classic Sardinian locality. Some minor peripheral bruising to be expected.

From the former collection Kasper (CH), it dates back to the 60s, when the mines were into production.
