Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Fantiscritti Quarry, Miseglia, Carrara, Massa-Carrara Province, Tuscany, Italy
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.6 × 1.8 × 1.8 cm
Description

A small but extremely interesting combination specimen from neverending Carrara. A honey-yellow crystal of sphalerite shows the classic epitaxial growth of flattened, black tetrahedra of colusite while in a small vug a tabular, metallic grey enargite crystal almost hides another sphalerite (orange-red) on which a swarm of micro (micro!) brownish crystals of greenockite have grown. Greenockite may not be so rare at Carrara, but this is the first specimen with visibile crystals we have met so far.

Analyzed specimen, coloected back in the 1970s.
