Description

A piece of earthy iron ochre from Monte Baldo near the Garda lake, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.

Comes with nice old pen and ink label. As early as 1872 Bernard Stürtz (1845-1928) had established himself as a mineral dealer in Bonn am Rhein, in a dealership that had been founded by his wife in 1866.
Stürtz was proprietor of what he called his Mineralogisches und palaeontologisches Comptoir ("Mineralogical and paleontological office"), dealing in "minerals, meteorites, rocks, ores, fossils, models, scientific instruments and preparations". His stock was bought out by Dr. A. Krantz very likely in the 1920's.

The label means: "Gelberde, Monte Baldo".
Gelberde = goethite ± halloysite-10Å, Dana 6th, 695 (1892).
