Description

Piece of garnet lherzolite from mantle transition zone (300-450 km deep). It contains deep purple red, gemmy pyrope grains up to 10 mm frozen in matrix mainly consisting of green chromian diopside. The red of the pyropes is brighter than on the pictures, even in sunlight.

"Arami Alp, Gorduno, Bellinzona, Riviera, Ticino, Switzerland" is the classic locality for this rare type of rock.
