Description

Littai (Litija) is quite known for very good cerussite specimens which usually occur on barite or host rock matrix. This specimen which is labeled to be from Littai exhibits lots of tan beige columnar / flat cerussite crystals on massive galena matrix. According to A. Brunnlechner (1885, Beiträge zur Charakteristik der Erzlagerstätte von Littai in Krain; Jahrbuch der k. k. geol. Reichsanstalt, 35. Band, 2. Heft.) this would be very unusual as he only described cerussite from there associated with other minerals but not with galena. So either this is a rare one (the habit of the cerussite is quite compatible) or the specimen is mislabeled. Ex Krantz, Jaklin stock. Late 19th century.
