Description

High lustrous crystalline gold on matrix from an old classic locale: Baia de Arieș, Alba, Romania. A famous old telluride deposit, formerly known as Offenbánya (Hungarian name; old German names include Schwendburg and Offenburg). Mined for gold and silver, and type locality for sylvanite.

The gold is filling small vugs or is in-grown in the quartz. Accompanied by minor pyrite, silvery galena and brownish sphalerite. A showy old-timer gold specimen.
