Description

A rare locality specimen consisting of crystalline, green fluorite on a matrix interspersed with galena. The fluorite shows weak pinkish-purple fluorescence under SW UV.

Comes with antique label and on-glued corresponding number sticker. The label means: "Fluorite verde nei filoni di galena - min'ra Navazze, Bovegno V.T." (Green fluorite next to veinlets of galena - Navazze mines, Bovegno V.T. [stands for Valle di Trompia = Trompia Valley])

The first notation of the torgola mine mine dates back to the 15th century. It was originally mined for argentiferous galena, later on also for sphalerite; this mining finally ceased in 1904 and shortly after this date the mining for fluorite begun (Torgola-Navazze mines). The last mine in Trompia valley closed down in 1999.

Luigi Bardelli (1869-1905) was born in Milan, Italy. He became a chemist at the Superior Technical Institute of Milan. Three years after Luigi Bardelli's death in 1905 (at Ameno), his widow Ida married Giuseppe Garbari, and the Bardelli collection was incorporated into the Garbari collection. Garbari's mineral collection was finally sold to the firm of Friedrich Krantz in Bonn, Germany (likely in the 1910's or 20's) and was then dispersed to many private and institutional collections.
