Ferruginous Quartz & Fluorite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Johannesschacht Mine, Wölsendorf, Schwarzach bei Nabburg, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.5 × 4.1 × 2.6 cm
Description

This is a fine and contrastful specimen, showing intense red-brown, excellent defined crystals of Ferrunginous Quartz perched atop of deep violet, almost black Fluorite, so called "Stinkfluß".  The reason for this name is the circumstance, that the "Stinkfluß" smells strangely sticky when smashed. Both species are highly lustrous, sharp edged and mostly perfect terminated. In any case this is an extremely aesthetic mini for the locality, despite that the specimen is not absolutely perfect.
