Description

Specimen consisting of bright lustrous hematite "sheets", accompanied by a bended, green epidote crystal frozen in quartz matrix, and red hematite/iron oxide coatings. A beautiful oldie!

This is a very old specimen from a locality which is already mentioned as "Moosgrufvan" in early 20th century literature (e.g. "Annalen des K. K. Naturhistorischen Hofmuseums, XXV. BAND, Wien, 1911") . The antique label means: "Bandförmiger Eisenmalm von Moosgrufvan in Risberget, Schweden" (Linear hematite from Moss Gruvan in Risberget, Sweden). "Eisenmalm" ist an old german designation for an earthy variety of hematite.
