Siderite & Dolomite

Ex B. Stürtz (Bonn, Germany)
Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Brefeld Mine, Sulzbach, Saarbrücken, Saarland, Germany
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 4 × 3 cm
Description

Nice and interesting specimen from an uncommon locale: the Saar coal basin was well known for interesting minerals occuring in veinlets and vugs within the carboniferous sediments hosting the coal seams which were mined there for hunderds of years.

The Brefeld mine closed in the early 20th century, samples from there are extremely rare.

This one consists of aggregates of small siderite rhombs over-/intergrown with whitish saddle like dolomite rhombs. Bits of chalcopyrite also present.

Small but nice with old label!
