Description

Damourite, in honor of Augustin Alexis Damour (1808-1902), mineralogical chemist, is a variety of muscovite. The silvery crystals are in-grown in pegmatite matrix (quartz-feldspar).

Comes with on-glued antique sticker of A. E. Foote (1846-1895).
Albert Edward Foote was one of America's most famous early mineral dealers. He began collecting minerals in 1862 and was a student of Prof. Walcott Gibbs at Cambridge and Prof. Hoffmann in Berlin. He displayed his fine personal collection in New York in 1873, and at the St. Louis Exposition in 1875, where he was awarded a medal. In 1875 he moved to Philadelphia. In 1876, to help launch his new business, Foote issued a substantial catalog of minerals for sale from his Philadelphia address at 3725 Lancaster Avenue. He also continued to place award-winning exhibits at the major international fairs. Foote died of a chronic tuberculosis infection on October 10, 1895, at the young age of 49, having built one of the largest and most successful mineral dealerships in history. (cit. minrec)
