Bornite Azurite & Covellite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Bou Skour Mine, Bou Skour, Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 6.4 × 2.8 cm
Description

Aggregate of quite clean grey bornite crystals of intense metallic lustre, associated to deep blue azurite crystals of intense vitreous lustre with very well defined edges and faces. The pseudo-rhombohedron morphology is quite uncommon, with crystals formed by {110} and {102}, modified by {111}. Interestingly they grew on altered galena crystals associated to iridescent blue covellite.

In contrast with other Moroccan localities, the Cu mines at the Bou Skour area has not produced a large number of crystallized azurite and/or bornite, so the locality is not well represented in collections. Found in 09/2015.
