Description

Aggregates of green-yellow rounded chlorargyrite crystals with a waxy lustre. The crystals are associated as bunches of grapes, and cover the pockets of a calcite and quartz matrix.

The given locality in the original old label is just “Mexico”, but considering the indigo blue coloured impregnations of the matrix (likely boleite), and the age of the specimen, Mr. Peter Megaw (a well known US collector of Mexican minerals) suggests that it is probably from the old silver mines in Arizpe, Sonora, Mexico.

It comes with four previous labels: the oldest (written in Spanish) is from an unknown origin and reads “cherargyre de Mexico” with a serial number 1757(3). It has a newer number (5245) handwritten in blue colour by Professor Dr. Joseph Mélon (Mélonjosephite) of the University of Liege (ULB). The labels 2 and 3 are from the ULB, and the last one was is from the Jozef Cosemans collection (4).
