Description

Ore specimen consisting of mostly of galena, chalcopyrite and calcite hosting some scattered, minute gold blebs, hard to distinguish from the sulphides. Probably from the Radhausberg gold mines.

The Bad Gastein area is a medieval gold mining region, gold with so-called Glaserz (acanthite + mix of mainly Ag-Bi ores) was the most desired ore over centuries. The mining activities ceased already in the late 19th century. Today, the workings are inaccessible, but some dumps still remain.
