Description

A good, complex crystal of white color, with no contacts or dings and medium lustre. Interestingly, one side of the specimen shows a light rainbow interference, which is not so common in this locality.
Good color contrast with the matrix, this is a connoisseur specimen.

Rio delle Marne is a small valley characterized by a chaotic melange of sedimentary deposits and Ni-bearing hydrothermalites, with at its top a talc quarry. Mostly known to local collectors, the area has produced some among the best calcite specimens the province had to offer.

Unfortunately, in 2010 a major landslide devastated the valley and wiped out the prolific hydrothermalites and calcite veins, leaving only sporadic blocks scattered in an area of a couple of kilometers.
On February 2020, with a friend I did explore the area once again, and assessed the area as defunct. The only find was the calcite specimen I am herewith offering.
