Calais, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.3 × 6.5 × 3.6 cm
Description

This is a very interesting and rare specimen for calcite collectors: A shell of a not formally identified echinoderm (but definitely a sea urchin) hosts parallel grown clear colourless / greyish calcite crystals aligned on the biologically given structure of the fossil. Really hard to photograph, the specimen is more sculptural in nature than the pictures suggest. Recorded locality is Calais, Normandy, France. Specimen comes out of the Rolf Heeren collection, i think it is probably second half of 20th century. Label of R. Heeren will be included.
