Vrančice, Příbram District, Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 8 × 2 cm
Description

The label that accompanies this polished specimen notes "willemite". Knowing the Franklin mine willemite I therefore tried a strong UV source and was suprised by the intense fluorescence that can be seen in the pictures. Mindat mentions three sub-localities for Vrancice (http://www.mindat.org/loc-212598.html): the Alexander Mine, the Pošepny vein and Radetice. I do not know from which of these three sub-localities this specimen originates. But this clearly is a significant fluorescent specimen from a classic European region. The pink fluorescence is most likely calcite. The yellow fluorescence could be the willemite (not 100% sure). Please note that the blue speckels are dust particles and thus no mineralogical property of this specimen.
