Quartz On Calcite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Mount Andrew, Dundas Nature Reserve, Esperance Shire, Western Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.8 × 2.4 × 0.8 cm
Description

This must be one of the most unusual and possibly unique specimens I have come across for some time. Glittering clear drusy quartz crystals have formed over a white calcite stalactite.

There are also some unusual yellow to brown micro siderite crystals imbedded in the quartz. At first i thought they may have been a rarer mineral but analysis showed them to be an iron carbonate with a weak nickel reading. This may explain the odd colour ?

Undamaged and nice for this locality.
