Description

Ore sample consisting of masses of iridiscent, amorphous bornite, minor white calcite and other unidentified minerals.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with antique J. Sasamoto label. Jiro Sasamoto was a famous Japanese mineralogist in the 1800's. T. Wada "Minerals of Japan" refers to Dr. Krantz aquiring a number of Japanese minerals from him. Unfortunately there is no more information available about this scientist, not even at the Krantz company itself. These old labels are very rare; Japan was a closed country at that time and there were not nearly as many mineralogical collections as in Europe.

Bungo was a historic province of Japan in eastern Kyūshū in the area of Ōita Prefecture.
