Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Herja Mine, Chiuzbaia, Baia Mare, Maramureș County, Romania
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.5 × 5 × 4 cm
Description

This specimen was a big surpirse for me. It came from the Hoffmann collection and was labeled as "Fizelyite". As it looked different to the usual fizelyite specimen from Herja I made an xray analyse of these elongated crystals.

The result was absolutely surprising: BENAVIDESITE. After receiving this result I checked the specimen again under the microscope and found some shiny, lens-shaped crystals. And here comes the next surprise: MIARGYRITE as the xray analyse doubtless confirmed.

So this is truely a very unique and rich specimen of both very rare minerals.

Especially for benavidesite it is the first specimen I ever saw with large crystals.

With boulangerite microcrystals almost everywere on the surface.
