Description

Bauxite is not exactly one of the most beautiful minerals, but it is the main ore of aluminum. It is an amorphous mixture of oxides and hydroxides colored by iron oxides. Here is a sample from a little known German deposit in the foothills of the Harz Mountains.

Comes with beautiful old label and on-glued corresponding number sticker from the former collection of metallurgical plant director Dr. O. Schmidt, Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany.
He deaceased 1923 or 1924, the collection (appr. 1200 specimens) was sold to the city of Bergisch-Gladbach in 1925, used as teaching resources in a secondary school then.
In 2016, after several movements, the remainders of the collection were sold to in order to support the city's fossil collection.
