Description

Bastite is a varietey of the serpentine group, another synonym is "Schillerspar". The matrix contains some iridescent, platy crystals of bastite. This specimen is from the type locality, the Baste mountain near Bad Harzburg, and comes with two antique labels. The older one is from an unknown collection, the big stamp-like label is from the famous Mineralien-Niederlage of the Freiberg mining college, Germany, dated 1920-1950. A classic with some history.
