Black barkevikite with a bit of feldspar.

Barkevikite is an obsolete name for a dark amphibole from pegmatites in the Langesundsfjord area.

The composition of barkevikite corresponds to several species within the range ferroedenite-hastingsite-magnesiohastingsite, depending on and varying from locality to locality.

Barkevikite from its type locality, Skutesundskjær near Barkevik, in the eastern part of the Langesundsfjord, is ferroedenite (Larsen 1995, Larsen 1998).

The specimen is from the collection of the famous Swedish mineralogist Harry von Eckermann († 1969, the mineral Eckermannite is named after him) and is followed by an original label bonded in a cardboard box.
