Ankerite Dolomite

Ex Geoff Thomas Collection (Victoria Australia)

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Renison Bell Mine, North Dundas, West Coast Municipality, Tasmania, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.8 × 4.8 × 2 cm
Description

An interesting specimen that features flattened rhombs of honey coloured ankerite-dolomite on clear quartz crystals. The matrix is mostly quartz with some disseminated sulphide that looks like pyrrohotite. Very beautiful specimen when viewed under magnification and difficult to find from this historic Tasmanian tin mine.

Note : Because it is so difficult to distinguish the exact species in the ankerite-dolomite-calcite series without precise chemical testing, this specimen is listed as ankerite-dolomite with this in mind.
