Description

A black crystalline fragment of aeschynite. The content of rare earths (Y, Ce, Nd, ) was not analyzed so far. Aeschynite-(Y) and aeschynite-(Ce) are both described for Miass, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.
Slightly radioactive due to content of U and rare earth elements (appr. 8.2 micro Sv/h within spitting distance).

Comes with rare antique Theodor Schuchardt (1829-1892) label. He established a chemical supply house and mineral dealership ("Chemische Fabrik & Mineralienhandlung") in 1865 in Muskau, in the Görlitz district in the Lusatian Neisse, Germany, where he had been placed in charge of the Princely Dutch Alum Works. Schuchardt was a prominent seller of mineral specimens, and most of his labels carry a catalog number in the corner, suggesting that they were sold as a part of large sets.
