Description

Here we have a fine Austrian Stibnite specimen with well developed crystals from the well known Antimony Mine at Stadtschlaining. The Antimony Mine, located 2 km north of Stadtschlaining in Austria, began operations in the 1700s, exploiting Stibnite-bearing hydrothermal veins of Tertiary age. The mine produced a good variety of mineral specimens and amongst these were some wonderful Stibnites formed from intergrown good sized crystals. This superb old-time specimen is composed entirely of interlocked Stibnite crystals, many to over 3 cm long and with asymmetric Roman sword-style terminations.  The crystals are steel gray with a fine metallic sheen. A superb Austrian Stibnite.
