Description

This is a fine olive green, glassy piece of Moldavite with a fine and interesting pattern along its surface. Moldavite is a greenish natural glass originating from the impact of a meteorite in Bavaria 15 million years ago. Found mainly in southern Bohemia and Moravia (both Czech Republic), minor occurrences are in Upper Austria (Waldviertel) and Germany (Lausitz), and very rare occurrences have been reported from south-west Poland. Moldavites were also traded by prehistoric humans and a few specimens were found outside of the strewnfield. The Vltava (German: Moldau) is the longest river within the Czech Republic, running southeast along the Bohemian Forest and then north across Bohemia, through Český Krumlov, České Budějovice and Prague, and finally merging with the Elbe at Mělník. It is commonly referred to as the "Czech national river" (mindat)
